IED Detection Systems-
Stands for improvised explosive device,
which is a bomb constructed and deployed
in ways other than in conventional
military action. Many IEDs are controlled
by an RF link. The receiver is connected
to an electrical firing circuit,
and from a distance, the transmitter
is manually operated.
FCS - Future Combat Systems is the modernization program of the US Army. There are various systems
being worked on, including systems consisting of unattended ground sensors as well as the "Non-Line of Sight – Launch System".
FCS also includes various unamanned aerial and ground vehicles; as well as eight manned ground vehicles (14 individual systems).
UAV - An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is an unpiloted aircraft. There are two variations of these types of aircrafts, the first flying autonomously based on pre-programmed planned and coordinates; the second being controlled remotely from the ground or another aircraft. UAVs perform both attack missions and scouting missions. They perform many missions that
are considered too dangerous for manned planes and helicopters. JTRS - The Joint Tactical Radio System is a next generation voice and data radio. It is to be used by the United States military in field operations after the year 2010. It will work with most all existing military and civilian radios, but also includes advances integrated encryption and Wideband Networking Software in order to create mobile ad hoc networks.
JSF - Joint Strike Fighter is a development program that will soon replace a vast range of legacy fighter, striker, and ground attack aircraft. It is being implemented by the United States and her allies.
