    Amphenol RF PSMP connector series offers ideal solution for blindmate applications requiring high power.  

    Danbury, CT – Amphenol RF is pleased to introduce its new PSMP interface as the perfect solution for board-to-board applications. With a minimum board spacing of 12.6 mm, the compact three-piece design allows maximum flexibility for high-density board spacing, and is an ideal solution for blind-mating situations.

    PSMP connectors are designed for high power applications up to 200 W at frequencies of 2.2 GHz and have an operating frequency up to 10 GHz. PSMP interconnects offer high flexibility due to misalignment (axial + 1 mm, radial 4°) and are available in smooth bore, limited detent and full detent configurations. The PSMP has the exact same PCB footprint as the SMP, allowing for easy conversion of applications for higher power handling.

    PSMP interconnects are suitable for a wide range of board to board applications including base stations, filter units, amplifiers and handheld radios.

    SS AssembliesAmphenol RF expands its SMA product family offering with new 50 Ohm connectors and cable assemblies featuring anti-torque SMA bodies.

    Danbury, CT – Amphenol RF is pleased to introduce anti-torque stainless steel connectors and cable assemblies to our expanding SMA product family. The new SMA connectors feature anti-torque bodies, which allow the user to hold the body with one wrench while simultaneously torqueing down the coupling nut to its mating connector with another. This helps to keep the entire assembly from twisting, thereby preventing damage to both the cable and the connector during installation.

    The SMA connectors have a passivated stainless steel coupling nut over a gold-plated connector body. These connectors are available in straight plug configurations and designed to terminate with 0.085” conformable cable and 0.141” conformable cable.

    The anti-torque stainless steel SMA cable assemblies are available in straight plug to straight plug configurations with 0.085” or 0.141” diameter conformable semi-rigid cable.  For applications requiring a more flexible cable, TFlex 405 by Amphenol Times Microwave is available. Cables are available in standard imperial lengths of 6,7,8,9,10,12,18,24 and 36 inches, as well as metric lengths of 0.25, 0.50, 1.0 meters. Custom lengths are available.

    Amphenol RF anti-torque stainless steel connectors and cable assemblies are designed to operate up to 18 GHz, making them ideal for high frequency applications.

    Amphenol RF introduces redesigned SMA and N-Type connectors optimized for improved performance with Low Loss 195 and Low Loss 240 coaxial cable.132454_1

    Amphenol RF is pleased to introduce new and improved SMA and N-Type coaxial connectors that have been optimized for Low Loss cables. Low Loss cables incorporate additional shielding in the form of a bonded foil conductor, which helps to improve grounding. Low Loss cables and the newly optimized connectors are matched to 50 Ohm impedance, allowing for maximum and reliable signal transfer.172381_1

    New SMA and N-Type connectors are available in straight jack, bulkhead jack, right angle plug and straight plug configurations. These connectors feature a crimp outer attachment using standard hex crimp sizes, allowing for quick and secure connections.     AMC TO SMADanbury, CT – Amphenol RF is pleased to introduce improved designs of our existing AMC to SMA cable assemblies. Design improvements were made to the SMA bulkhead mounting connectors allowing the non-IP67 cables to be mounted to panels with a max thickness of 3.2mm.  Cables with IP67 connectors are suitable for panels with a max thickness of 5.95mm.  Both standard polarity and reverse polarity options are available.

    Cable assemblies are available with single shielded 1.13mm and 1.37mm micro-coaxial cables as well as 1.32mm double shielded cable.  Cables are available in standard lengths of 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300mm.   Custom lengths are available.

    AMC to SMA pre-configured assemblies are ideal for use in M2M applications connecting wireless radio modules to external antennas.  IP67 solutions are idea for harsh environments and industrial applications.

    Amphenol RF offers a growing coaxial attenuator product line for applications where high reliability is critical.

    Danbury, CT – Amphenol RF is pleased to introduce a line of high quality SMA and N-Type fixed attenuators to its product portfolio. Amphenol RF attenuators are designed to offer flat attenuation over a designated frequency range and feature a microwave grade resistor that consistently reduces power.

    Fixed attenuators are offered in straight jack to plug configurations and operate from DC to 6 GHz. The SMA attenuator series have an attenuation range from 1 to 10 dB with ± 0.5 accuracy and can handle an average input power up to 2 W with low VSWR precision performance. The N-Type series have attenuation values from 3 to 30 dB and offer accurate, repeatable performance for 2 W and 5 W power levels. Matched to 50 Ohm impedance, the attenuators have a passivated stainless steel body and hex flats on the body allow the attenuators to be easily torqued to the mating connector.

    Low PIM is the buzzword of the week in wireless infrastructure as the industry decides on the new “standard” RF connector. PIM stands for Passive Intermodulation (which is similar but not the same as IMD – that is for active components) and is measured in dB’s. PIM is defined as the unwanted signal or signals generated by the non-linear mixing of 2 or more frequencies, but what does it really mean to the consumer? High PIM means poor cellular reception and limited bandwidth to the end user, which in turn means lost customers to the carrier. Low PIM means strong signals with more bandwidth for more users, which means happy customers and higher revenues for the carrier. From a hardware perspective, it means that each and every connection must be designed to minimize PIM and tested to ensure it is installed properly. That is where Amphenol is the expert.

    Current Hardware

    The current standard wireless RF connector – 7/16 connectors – are large and heavy. They have been in the field for years, are proven to be reliable, and have good PIM performance. However, in the age of smartphones, increased data usage equates to increased RF connector density, and the 2”x 2” flange required to mount a 7/16 is too large.

    The current alternative – N type connectors – are smaller and fit on a 1”x 1” flange, but cannot match the torque spec or PIM performance of the 7/16 connector.

    Connection Evolution

    The front runners for the crown are the 4.1/9.5 and the 4.3/10 connector. The 4.1/9.5 connector is an old interface and is commercially available, but has not achieved widespread adoption. For a list of available current generation Low PIM adapters follow the hyperlink. The 4.3/10 is a new interface based on a new specification, with nearly no time in the field. Let’s compare the two technically first, then understand the industry forces acting on the choice of next gen connectors:

    • Both meet or exceed the performance of the 7/16, but fit on a 1” flange
    • Both can handle higher torque loads than N type, reducing install failures
    • 4.1/9.5 PIM performance varies when loose or under strain (similar to 7/16)
    • 4.3/10 has the unique ability to have stable PIM while connector is loose or under strain – this increases reliability and allows it to be hand tightened
    • 4.3/10 has separate mechanical and electrical planes for optimized PIM

    Industry forces:

    • A major US carrier is pushing all large RF interfaces to 4.1/9.5
    • European standard is likely to be 4.3/10
    • Many carriers have not adopted 4.1/9.5, seemingly waiting for the 4.3/10

    While Verizon is supporting 4.1/9.5 at the moment, the industry at large seems to be holding off as the 4.3/10 is a strong contender for the crown of “Standard Low PIM” connector. Very likely both standards will exist and create their own niche, as is seen with the current gen products.     Amphenol RF expands its coaxial cable assembly offering with a new line of SMP cable assemblies, ideal for size constrained, high frequency applications.

    Danbury, CT – Amphenol RF introduces fixed length SMP cable assemblies as the ideal preconfigured solution for high frequency applications with 50 Ohm impedance requirements. The cable assemblies offer excellent performance up to 26.5 GHz and are highly reliable in test environments.

    Amphenol SMP pre-configured cable assemblies feature Amphenol RF’s SMP plug connectors, which are designed to accommodate both radial and axial misalignment in a small package size. The SMP connectors are terminated to industry standard 0.085 conformable and Times Microwave TFlex®-405 cable. They are available in standard lengths ranging from 3 to 36 inches, with the right length option available for any RF design.

    Due to its high frequency range, SMP cable assemblies are ideal for high data rate applications such as broadband communications, instrumentation, and antennas. Their reliability under conditions of radial and axial misalignment also makes them ideal for applications exposed to shock and vibration such as instrumentation equipment, aerospace, and military applications.

    Amphenol RF AMMC and AMC coaxial interfaces offer maximum performance in space saving, micro-miniature designs.

    Danbury, CT Amphenol RF introduces its ultra-miniature AMMC printed circuit board connector ideal for space-constrained RF applications with 50 Ohm impedance requirements. These connectors are fully compatible with the Hirose W.FL and IPEX MHF III series.

    Amphenol Micro Miniature Coaxial (AMMC) connectors are low profile (1.4 mm off the board, mated) with an extremely small footprint (2 mm x 2 mm). Packaged in 3,000 piece reels, these connectors feature high frequency broadband performance up to 6GHz and easy snap on/off mating. The AMMC connectors are designed to be surface mounted, which allows for higher PC board densities.

    In addition to AMMC PCB connectors, Amphenol RF offers a full AMMC product portfolio which includes AMMC cable jumpers and AMMC to SMA coaxial adapters. The jumpers offer an AMMC right angle plug to AMMC right angle plug on industry standard black 0.81 mm and 1.13 mm micro-coaxial cable.

    Furthermore, Amphenol RF has extended the AMC product line to include AMC jumpers with 0.81mm micro-coaxial cable and RG-178 cable configurations. Similar to the AMMC, The AMC (Amphenol Micro Coaxial) connector series is a low profile (2.5 mm of the board, mated) series with an extremely small board footprint (3mm x 3mm).

    The light weight, compact designs make AMMC and AMC interconnects optimal for Wireless, WLAN, Bluetooth, and GPS applications. They meet the high frequency transmission requirements of mobile phones, notebook computers, and tablets. Due to their ability to maintain superior signal integrity, AMMC and AMC connectors are also popularly used for antenna connections and cellular communications.
