Strain Relief Boots

Durable boots that protect cable-to-connector transitions under mechanical stress.

Overview

Amphenol RF’s strain relief boots are designed to reinforce the junction where cable exits a connector, absorbing flex, torsion, and bending loads to extend system life. Our boots cover industry-standard connector interfaces in both in-series and between-series designs, offering options for many coaxial cable types.

With a broad stocking range for common cable groups (for example, RG-58, RG-59, RG-174, and others) and connector interfaces, these boots ensure effective mechanical protection without impairing RF performance.

Features and Benefits
  • Mechanical stress relief — effectively manage bend radius, torque, and tensile loads at the connector interface
  • Broad compatibility — offered in both in-series and between-series formats for standard RF connectors
  • Multiple cable group support — parts available for RG-58, RG-59, RG-174, and 4.3-10 coax types
  • Flexible, rugged materials — made from durable elastomers or PVC that resist aging and flex fatigue
  • Compact footprint — low-profile boots that don’t significantly increase connector bulk
  • Ease of installation — slip-on designs permit quick retrofitting to existing cable assemblies
Key Technical Details
  • Mating cycles
Though boots don’t “mate,” their mechanical interface (slip-fit, press-fit) is designed for repeated installation and removal — typically dozens to hundreds of cycles, depending on material choice.
  • Temperature range
A common service envelope is around –65 °C to +165 °C (actual limits depend on the elastomer/plastic formulation)
  • Special features
Flexible elastomers for fatigue resistance, matched durometer to cable flexibility, minimal hysteresis, and UV or chemical resistance in suitable materials
Applications

Strain relief boots are essential wherever cable assemblies face bending, motion, or flexing stresses:

  • Dynamic systems or movable assemblies (robotics, actuators)
  • Cable routing along sharp edges, surfaces, or bracketed structures
  • Antenna feedlines, RF test interconnects, and instrumentation cables
  • Environments subject to vibration, shock, or repeated flex
  • Retrofit protection for field-installed coax runs
  • Commercial, broadcast, telecom, and testbench installations
