QMA Terminators
Overview
QMA Terminators from Amphenol RF deliver a streamlined solution for terminating unused RF ports in systems that leverage the QMA quick-disconnect interface. The QMA connector shares the internal design of the SMA series but uses a snap-on coupling mechanism, enabling faster install and more compact packaging.
When unused ports are left unterminated in RF systems—whether in wireless infrastructure, test equipment, or high-density modules—the QMA terminations ensure proper impedance matching, minimize reflections and help maintain overall signal integrity. With the QMA interface supporting excellent broadband performance up to 18 GHz (for the connector series) and a snap-on interface that simplifies connection and disconnection, these terminations offer both electrical and operational benefits.
Features and Benefits
- Quick-disconnect snap-on QMA interface allows fast installation and removal of terminations without tools—ideal for high-density RF racks or modular systems.
- Compact footprint: the QMA’s design permits closer connector spacing compared to threaded interfaces, helping optimize space in dense installations.
- High-frequency capability: the QMA interface supports low-loss RF performance up to ~6 GHz (and in some variants up to 18 GHz) thanks to the internal SMA-line design.
- 50 Ω impedance standard—ensures system compatibility in most RF applications, simplifying selection and inventory.
- Engineered for reliability in general RF systems, reducing signal degradation by properly closing unused ports with matched terminations.
Key Technical Details
- Impedance: 50 Ω (standard for QMA series).
- Frequency Range: Up to ~6 GHz for many QMA configs; some extended QMA designs support up to ~18 GHz. Performance of terminations depends on cable and assembly.
- Mating Cycles: The QMA interface supports rapid connect/disconnect; actual termination mating life may vary by application and environment.
- Temperature Range: The broader QMA connector family is rated for typical operating environments (e.g., –40 °C to +80 °C for some profiles). Termination parts should be checked for exact ratings.
- Special Features: Snap-on coupling, compact form factor, high-frequency capability. Note: standard QMA terminations from Amphenol RF are not listed as hermetically sealed or IP67 unless specified in the product datasheet.
Applications
- Wireless infrastructure and cellular base-station equipment where QMA connectors may be used and spare ports require termination to avoid signal leakage or reflection.
- Test and measurement systems where instrument ports use QMA interfaces and require matched terminations for calibration or idle-state stability.
- High-density RF modules, rack-mount systems or coaxial patch-panels where space is at a premium and QMA’s compact, tool-free coupling provides operational advantage.
- Modular RF assemblies, network equipment or communication subsystems that use QMA connectors and need reliable termination of unused or spare ports.
