TNC Terminators
Rugged 50 Ω RF terminations built for the threaded TNC interface to ensure dependable port closure and signal integrity
Overview
In many RF systems, the termination of unused ports is critical to maintain performance, prevent signal reflections and safeguard system integrity. Our TNC Terminators—designed to mate with the standard TNC threaded interface—provide a robust solution for proper impedance matching in cable assemblies and RF networks. With the underlying TNC connector series supporting DC-11 GHz (and extended-range up to ~18 GHz) performance, these terminators are well-suited for demanding applications.
Engineered with the same mechanical design characteristics as the TNC connector family—such as threaded coupling, vibration-resistance and broad environmental tolerance—these terminations help systems maintain stable RF performance while simplifying system assembly and maintenance.
Features and Benefits
- 50 Ω impedance standard, matching the majority of TNC connector systems for consistent RF performance and simplified part selection.
- Threaded coupling mechanism ensures secure connections even in vibration-intensive or mobile environments—helping prevent inadvertent disconnects.
- Broad frequency capability—given the connector lineage supports DC-11 GHz (and up to ~18 GHz for extended designs)—making the terminators compatible with a wide range of RF, microwave and test-equipment applications.
- Durable materials and design supporting demanding environments; suitable for use in telecom, industrial wireless, broadcast and military platforms.
- Standardized footprint and interface helps streamline inventory, maintenance and system integration for engineers and procurement professionals.
Key Technical Details
- Impedance: 50 Ω nominal, per the TNC connector series specification.
- Frequency Range: DC to ~11 GHz is typical for the TNC interface; extended-range versions support up to ~18 GHz. Terminator performance will depend on configuration and assembly.
- Mating Cycles: The TNC connector series is rated for a minimum of 500 mating cycles. Terminator usage may vary based on system design and environment.
- Temperature Range: –65 °C to +165 °C typical for the TNC connector family. Actual rating for a specific terminator will depend on material, mounting and configuration.
- Special Features: Threaded coupling for vibration resistance, strong mechanical integrity, broad usage. Note: Standard TNC terminators from this series are not listed as hermetically sealed nor specified as IP67 unless otherwise noted.
Applications
- Telecom base-station equipment and outdoor wireless infrastructure where TNC-type ports must be properly terminated when not in use to avoid reflections or signal leakage.
- Industrial wireless and transportation systems where mechanical reliability under vibration, shock or movement is critical and termination must keep pace.
- Broadcast or instrumentation racks with TNC interfaces where unused cells or ports must be terminated to maintain signal calibration and integrity.
- Test & measurement setups utilizing TNC connectors where matched termination of spare or measurement ports is required for accurate results.
- Cable-assembly systems or RF modules where the standard TNC interface is used and proper termination is part of system reliability and maintenance practice.
